I came to CODA jobless, homeless, broke, and broken, as well as an addict and an alcoholic. Through working with my case manager, I was able to get help in getting HIP and food stamps. With lots of encouragement from the staff I got a great job as an assistant manager for McAlister’s Deli, after many failed attempts to get any job. I got a car so I could get to and from work. I started working a recovery program and have over ten months clean and sober. I learned how to set boundaries and form healthy relationships. I learned how to talk to people and to not be afraid to ask for help when I needed it. I went from not knowing what I was doing with my life, to be enrolled in college working on a degree in Human Services/Social Work. I was able to find my own apartment to move to and become independent. I went from a scared, scarred, and lost, and became someone strong, confident, and with hope.
